PopularTechnology.net by Andrew Khan?

Hardly news to me though. (and I am still hoping it is not true)

Below is what was given to me. None of this information involved violation of privacy, the sources are still available online. If error, we welcome corrections.

==========
Andrew of populartechnology.net is Andrew K of Optimize Guides.

http://home.comcast.net/~SupportCD/About.html

A few years ago he posted his blog and website around the web under various names- Mastertech being the most well known,

His pages were all anti-Firefox, anti-open-source software and anti-Linux.

I was involved with many arguments with him, partly because I thought his post were motivated by a political bias rather than an objective assessment of the merits of open source software, but mostly because I was angry with his use of sock puppets to basically spam his pages without admitting authorship and to post comments in support of himself.

Originally he was posting pages from both populartechnology.net and Optimize Guides but denying being the author of either. Later on Mastertech was claiming to be the author of Optimize Guides but denying being Andrew K of populartechnology.net.

I should mention that I was using the name FreewheelinFrank in arguments with him. I personally came across evidence that proved Andrew was Andrew K (not that it was ever really in doubt- both authors were called Andrew, both had similar opinions, and both linked to each other).

A couple of blog authors also caught him using multiple sock puppets on their blogs to post in support of himself.

There were other people who noticed and objected to his activities, and Andrew’s response to them was to misquote them on his page to make it look as though they supported him, or to post comments in their name with views very contrary to what those people actually held. (He famously did this to Asa Dotzler of Firefox.)

I don’t know if Andrew K still denies being Andrew. As Optimize Guides now has links to populartechnology.net global warming denial pages at the top of every page, I don’t think he’s fooling many people if he is.

Anyway, in many arguments with Andrew on various comment sections and blogs, I got to know him well enough to recognise him posting under any name.

In one argument he was posting as Andrew K, but in one comment posted as Andrew Khan.

He denies this is his real name, but if you were typing your first name and the initial of your surname, might you accidentally type a totally random surname? No, preposterous of course.

Other information about him I know is he lives in New Jersey, and works in computers- although he exaggerated his CV when he started posting about global warming- he likes to claim he’s a computer analyst or computer scientist when those of us who know him of only remember him as somebody with background in computer technical support.

David Hammond also did a parody of Andrew’s Firefox page:

  1. I don’t think it is true – that he “accidentally” posted as Andrew Khan on Greenfyre after that exchange seems to me to be a pathetic attempt to feed the fire.

Either way, Andrew is a waste of time and effort – his head’s far too high up his arse to reason with or draw any sensible conclusions with. Either he’s a complete lunatic, much like Jo Nova, who flies off on paranoid rants largely inspired by a wealth obsession or he’s simply paid to be such an idiot.
